BARRE, VT
Mr. Otter and I were driving through New Hampshire and Vermont in 2014, and this was one of the places on my list to stop for pictures.
Hope Cemetery was begun in 1895, in a town that billed itself the ‘Granite Capital of the World’. Because many stonecutters and sculptors came to this area to work in the booming granite industry, many of them quite naturally carved their own tombstones… and as you can see, the place is an amazing eclectic sculpture garden.
The cemetery is 65 acres, and I only saw a part of it, but it was extremely cool.
